Methodology and Data Sources
Hold uses market data and the assumptions you enter to produce planning estimates. They are not guarantees of future returns or payments.
Dividend income estimates
The dividend calculator multiplies shares owned by the annual dividend per share. It divides that result by four and twelve for quarterly and monthly planning views. The monthly income calculator multiplies portfolio value by annual yield, then divides the result by twelve. Those monthly figures are averages; actual payments follow each security's schedule.
DRIP projections
The DRIP calculator estimates annual dividends from the starting portfolio value and yield, reinvests those dividends, then applies the assumed share-price growth. The dividend-growth assumption increases the yield used in the next year. It does not model taxes, trading costs, cash contributions, changes in payout frequency, dividend cuts, or reinvestment timing within the year.
Market data and freshness
Hold collects available prices, annual dividend rates, dividend yields, ex-dividend dates, company names, exchanges, and currencies from Yahoo Finance. If that source is unavailable, the service can fall back to CNBC, Barchart, and Barron's. Stock records are refreshed daily when the refresh service is enabled. A source can delay, revise, omit, or differ from an issuer's official announcement, so verify important decisions with a primary source.
Privacy and security
Hold processes account, portfolio, and position information needed to provide the service. Stripe processes subscription payments. When enabled in production, PostHog helps measure product use while respecting browser Do Not Track preferences and without session recording. Sentry receives error reports with sensitive fields, cookies, and common credential parameters redacted.
The service uses HTTPS security controls, restrictive browser security headers, rate limits, and authenticated access controls. Refresh tokens are stored in HTTP-only, secure cookies and rotated when used. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Important limitations
Dividends may be increased, reduced, suspended, or eliminated. Prices, yields, exchange rates, tax treatment, and payment dates can change. Hold is operated by Kanark LLC and does not provide investment advice or recommendations.
